Musical Food for Thought

I came across an article today that resonated with me immediately..."natural and crafted are in". As I work on my new album, I've been thinking a lot about mixing genres in songwriting and creating organic, less produced music. I love the sound of acoustic instruments and simple, effective melodic treatments. Adding in some unexpected instrumentation is also something I wanted to include. Placing a classical cello in a standard jazz tune lends an interesting and fresh sound. Using the middle eastern Oud in an original pop tune gives the song an ear-bending twist. Bringing in classical and ethnic flavours to my songs is something I am excited to share with you on my upcoming album. The article that follows talks about this, about mixing genres and using the "old school values of craft and musicianship". Thoughts?
